When exploring the Great British Countryside, we often want to find cow free walks in the UK. Cows can be intimidating to people. But for dog walkers, all livestock is a problem, especially sheep. Many dogs will give chase causing the sheep to run which encourages the dog to chase them more fervently. Indeed, the ancestors of many of our pet dogs were bred to control livestock and that instinct is still with them.
This is a problem we understand well. So Rights of Wayfinder has Dog Mode.
Enter Dog Mode by clicking the filter icon near the top of the main mapping screen. If Dog Mode is on, the toggle switch will turn green. Click the switch to turn Dog Mode on and off.
Once switched on, Dog Mode will display the route labels on the mapping screen in red, green or blue. Red means we don't think the route is suitable for walking dogs without close control. This may be because of livestock, traffic or other issues. Green means that the route is probably suitable for walking a well-behaved dog off the lead with care. Remember that you may encounter other walkers, horse riders, cyclists, pony and traps, motorcyclists or 4x4 users. These should be travelling sedately but may spook your dog.
Blue means we have no information either way. Here you can help. If you use any route in Rights of Wayfinder, please let us and all other users know what it is like.
All across the UK, there are thousands of miles of paths, highways and byways that are suitable for walking your dog. From long-distance routes to a gentle stroll during your lunch break. Diversity is part of what makes them so interesting and so valuable.
Do you know a walk we have missed?
